This is the first of two trains the Durango and Silverton ran to Silverton on this day. This is the more typical angle and only 500 feet from this shot.

I am standing on the only rock that hangs out on this side of the tracks. A tiny cut almost. Behind me, the tracks take a sharp turn as it follow the Animas river, which, is two feet to my left and two hundred feet down!

1920s built steam locomotive, early 1900s styled coaches, wonder scenery = Amazing!

It looks just perfect!
Well, if only I imagined Amtrak running much of these.
