Description

Norfolk Southern heritage unit Jersey Central lines leads coal train 590 out of Gallitzin tunnel west of Altoona, PA under some fall colors. Id consider this to be my luckiest shot of 2012. It was mostly cloudy all morning but right as the train entered the tunnel, the sky right where, and only where the sun is, cleared and it was most nice for 3 minutes. I shot this train on the other end of the tunnel, saw the clearing, and hurried up to the other side.

Please bear with me as this is my first critique.

What strikes me with this photo/deviation is the wide range of colors. The eye isn't just drawn to the emerging coal train, nor the NS Heritage locomotive leading the coal drag... but to take in everything around it as well. It is also a plus that the train doesn't take up the whole picture. Thank you for not "overzooming" the train.

There is also plenty of beautiful nature scenery, with little sky visible; also a plus.

What I also like about this photo is that it doesn't give the appearance of being digitally enhanced. Some of the photos I've seen posted have been so digitally enhanced or photoshopped that it gives their photos an almost animated appearance. Bravo for keeping this real!

In my opinion, this is one of your best pictures; hence the critique.
