Lookin down by DragonWolfACe Lookin down by DragonWolfACe
Heres looking down on ya. We are looking down, way down, atop Route 43, or the Mon Fayette Expressway at Mingo Creek trestle. The railroad soars above the valley at a height of 200 feet, the 4 lane highway is another 50 feet above that.

The trestle is nearly a century old and may outlast the highway bridge.

W&LE 3046 is one of three SD40Xs that EMD built. Basically a SD40-2 on a SD40 frame.

I wonder what the people living in the house next to the bridge think of the possibility of a derailment...

Wow!

I'll bet the people in the house don't think about derailments as much as the crew does....

Especially considering how the Wheeling is good at keeping up with bridge and track work.

Phenominal picture. I can't imagine what trouble it must have been to stop on the highway with all the trafic. I've always loved those soaring Pittsburgh and West Virginia bridges, but have never been able to catch a train on one.

Oh, stopping on the bridge wasnt much of a problem. Rt43 is one of those Government blunders. The road isnt busy at all, plus the bridge has a wide pulloff lane.

Dont worry about not catching anything on these bridges Glenn. Ive only shot 5 trains on these bridges in the last 6 years. Three this year alone! Your time will come.
