Milltown Night

Nightfall has settled onto the mill town of Mingo Jct, Ohio as fog, mist, and rain add to the drab mood. Blue collar workers tired from a days work within Wheeling-Pitts Steubenville South mill head to the half dozen bars within town and Welsh's is one of them. On the Pennsylvania's busy Panhandle mainline, linking New York City to St Louis, a classic T1 duplex pulls one of the Pennsy's great all stainless steel blue ribbon fleet, the St Louisian westward. Underneath, a West Penn Railways streetcar ducks under the subway underneath the mainline. The date...summer 1946.

Sixty eight years later...2014. The mill, shut down and in the process of being torn down. The steam engine, gone, but there is a group with high hopes of building one from scratch, the Pennsylvania Railroad T1 Steam Locomotive Trust. The passenger train and all thru trains, gone. The mainline, nevermore. Welsh's, gone. The streetcar, gone. Time is a bastard child that takes everything one holds close and youre left with dust in your hands.
