Oh deer! by DragonWolfACe Oh deer! by DragonWolfACe
A doe and her fawns pose on the tracks as a train creeps forward. The train was going 10MPH at the time. They stopped and the crew uncoupled from the train and slowly crept up towards the deer with the bell ringing to scare the creatures away. It worked. Just like typical deer, they just stood right in the way.

Very cool! You seemed to be at the right place at the right time, my friend! This picture definitely epitomizes the nature vs. industry feel with animals standing in the middle of progress, near what probably used to be a forest/greenery area, showing how industry is taking over the wildlife, and endangering some native animals like deer, pushing them farther back into their environment. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but great picture! By the way, how close were you to those deer? If you took it without zooming in at that length, you are one lucky person! Usually deer will run away if they even hear a human or mechanized machine coming their way. So cool!

Love it! And glad to here they are all okay! This is better than I could ever do! Maybe try doing some more photos like this! I have really nothing to say than awesome! Obviously you can't do another angle cos there is a train. Maybe try zooming in (still keep train in photo though) and some simple photo edits (lighting and color). Keep up the great work! I do love the concept and it is very impacting, it speaks to me (as a deer therian) It is a great balance of nature and humanity, this would be an amazing art piece in some type of gallery or competition.

Many have asked if this is shopped because of there not being any shadows. I had the original files to prove this is not a shopped image. Actually, I have 2 dozen worth.

You'd think evolution would teach deer to run like hell as a large creeping predator nears, like a bear in nature or a train or car today, but NOOOOOOOO.

Evolution does not have to make sense from a human perspective, that is something most creationists fail to understand.

The deer have a reflex to stand still in certain situations and that really doesn't help them at all.

I had that happen during a hunting trip before.

With all the roads and train tracks and such now, it's kinda hard for the deer to NOT be in the way. The forests they lived in have gotten smaller so that's why they wander around houses and roads now. Many of them get hit by cars sadly.

Glad these 3 are ok though. Those little babies are ADORABLE ^^, and this is a great photo.

You'd have to be one seriously dopey doe to stand in the path of a moving train, even if it is moving that slowly.

Still, nice job in capturing that moment! :D

Its 100% real, the shadow for the doe is on the rail, the two fawns are too small to see a visible shadow.

Aw, they are adorable. I am glad they are OK. In the town where I grew up, the deers also live in the city, sometimes just standing on the sidewalks waiting for traffic to calm down and looking cute (and also eating and messing up garders and graveyards, but they are so adorable that I couldn't care less).

Nice photo manipulation, the lighting is great, but you need to work on the shadows. All the ones in the back are long, the deer have none.

Not a manip, I dont do that, this is just as the camera saw it. It wasnt too late in the afternoon so there wouldnt be much of a shadow like late in the day.
