Short story... Ruedi of Wolf Park of Battle Ground, IN howls. [link]
Long story... This was my first real visit with wolves where I got to go in with them. Where they came up to me and I got to pet them. Being in with them released all restrictions when dealing with fence and other obstacles when taking photos of them. I went in and did the half day visit and getting instructions on world famous wolf photographer Monty Sloan on how to take photos of wolves. The day was getting long and the group was in with the wolves for over two hours. About this time we were there for nearly five hours. It was really a long day.
Then the nearby tornado siren goes off as strong storms where coming from the North! I look over and Ruedi, as with all the wolves in the park, start howling at it. Ruedi took a pause as he took a breath but I knew he wasnt done. I got ready and got this as Ruedi started howling again. It was very brief but it was worth it.
Afterwards we were all rushed out of the enclosure and inside to seek shelter. It rained nearly 2 inches in 45 minutes but that was all, no tornadoes! After that we went back out for the last hour and finished up as the sun set.
I would buy some goodies in the gift shop and then leave for Chicago, 2 hours away. I would go a hour before I stopped at a fast food joint to grab dinner then get a motel at Merrillville, IN and call it a day. The next few days I would railfan Chicago in near perfect, for November, weather.
Ruedi is not a very pretty wolf [in my opinion of course, I'm not a Tristan-like look fan ] but you've manage to make him look stunning! Wonderful photo
It's matter of personal preferences I guess - I don't like Tristan's and his look-alike children masks, very much like huskies, and bluish eyes are. I just prefer wolves like Orca, Seneca or Socrates, that lived in WolfPark in the past. But Wolfgang and Wotan are handsome guys And you're very welcome
