Description
Fire, smoke, and pollution exit from the stacks at the Mountain State coke plant in Follansbee, West Virginia.
In the twenty years Ive gone past this plant, Ive never seen it this BAD. But due to either equipment malfunction or exceeding capacity, it is polluting rather...well...interesting.
Now in the 1970s, before the clean air act, my parents and grandparents would drive by this plant and it would be dark like night at 12 noon and would have the smell of rotten eggs. They called it, "The smell of money" because men were working and making money. Even this here is an improvement over what was but some wont be happy until there is no pollution, which equals to no jobs.
Oh, and the title, Hell Fire...fitting isnt it...fire, smoke, ehh, ehh? I would think HellFire Steel would be a EXCELLENT name for a steel company, which...is the name of my imaginary one.
Oh, hehe...

I love this shot of bygone era in most of the Rust Belt. Back in the 80s and early 90s you could smell, taste, and see it over everything but it was a blue collar city at it's best. What killed it was Unions, International opportunities, and a lessening demand for it in the name of said international opportunities.
